The Worst Gym Advice of All Time, Officially Ranked

Every gym has a resident scientist. He's never published a paper, but he's got Opinions about creatine timing, and he will share them mid-set, uninvited, while you're locked into a rep you can't escape.

We spent way too long cataloguing the worst gym advice ever whispered near a squat rack, then ranked it from merely bad to actively criminal. Consider this your immunity.

#5 — 'If you're not sore for three days, it didn't work'

Delayed onset muscle soreness is not a scoreboard. It's just your body being dramatic about a new stimulus, and it fades the more consistently you train — which is the opposite of what the soreness-chasers want to hear.

Judge a session by whether you got stronger, moved better, or showed up at all. If DOMS were the metric, someone limping through their first hot yoga class would be the fittest person alive.

#4 — 'Wear it two sizes down, you'll look bigger'

This one refuses to die. Somewhere, someone decided the fastest route to looking swole was cutting off circulation to both arms in a shirt built for someone else's shoulders.

An oversized cut does the flattering math for you — no compression, no elbow bruises. If you've been guessing your size out of bro-science instead of a chart, that's the actual upgrade.

#3 — 'No pain, no gain' (please, just stop)

Pain is information, not a badge. 'No pain, no gain' has talked more people into training through a genuine injury than any spotter has talked people out of one.

Discomfort from effort is normal. A sharp pull in your shoulder that gets worse each set isn't 'gains,' it's a future appointment. Our alchemists learned this the questionable way — that's basically the whole brand.

#2 — 'Just dirty bulk, it's basically science'

'Eat everything in sight, it'll turn into muscle' is not a protocol, it's a dare. Somewhere between the fourth donut and the bathroom scale, the science quietly left the room.

If your bulking plan sounds like a fraternity hazing ritual, it's not a plan. Growth needs structure, recovery, and yes, some actual food — the lab-coat kind of dedication, not the drive-thru kind.

#1 — 'Skip the training, just wear the shirt'

The single worst piece of gym advice we've ever heard, delivered completely unironically: results are optional if the fit is right. We cannot confirm or deny that we built a whole brand around this joke.

Obviously, you still have to show up and lift the thing. But if you're going to put in the work, you may as well look like you were built in a lab, under circumstances nobody wants explained.
